5 Card Stud

5-Card Stud Poker Rules

Antes

Before the start of every hand, each player needs to contribute a small bet known as ante. These antes are in turn used as an incentive for the players to play the hand, and build the pot.

The Stakes

You can find ‘stakes’ section in the main lobby table list. For every 5-Card Stud game, the stakes order the bet and raise amount for each round of betting. First, the lower number is used for the first two rounds, then the higher numbers are used for the last two.
For example, we use a $5/$10 stakes. In the initial 2 betting rounds, both the bet and the raise must not be more or less than $5. But the last 2 rounds have a bet/raise amount of $10.

The Cap

In 5-card stud, every betting round consists of one bet and has a maximum of three of allowable raises, called as the cap. Hence, if a bet is made, that bet can only be raised three times, after which all players must call, or fold. However, if only two players remain in the hand the cap is increased to a maximum of five raises.

Ante Up!

All players must post some ante if he wants to play.

The Pocket and the Door

The dealer deals for every player with one face down card, and then a face-up card. After this, the first betting action would begin

The Bring-In

A player who possesses the least showing door card must post "the bring-in", a mandatory initial bet of usually half the smaller stake amount. The bring-in player has the choice to increase this bet to the full small stake.

If two players are showing the same door card, then in such case, the suit rankings would be used to decide which card is the weakest. The ranks of the suits include Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs.

Third Street

After the initial betting round has been called, every player would be dealt with another face up card, known as "Third Street." The highest showing hand opens the betting round. If a pair is showing for any hand on Third Street, that player has the option of doubling his(or her) bet amount, and "raising the stake" for this betting round. Otherwise, Third Street bets and raises are limited to the small stake.

Fourth Street

Another face up card is dealt to each player, and the hand with highest rank would open the betting round. For the last two rounds, the bet amount is now the higher stake ($10 in our $5/$10 game).

The River

The fourth and final face up card is dealt to each player, thus making a total of 5 cards. Now the final betting round starts and as before, the highest showing hand starts the betting. The River bets are still limited to the upper stake.

The Showdown

Now all the bets have been called, and the time has come to decide the winner. The last player who have bet or raised during the final betting round (the river) would show their hand first. Thus, if all the players have checked through, then the player, who is to the immediate left of the dealer, would show their hands first. The hands of the rest of players would be automatically revealed in a clockwise direction, unless or until a hand is weaker than the winning hand shown. Here, the player has the option to show, or muck (fold without showing), and the best 5-card hand takes the pot.

Buying the pot

If all the players fold to you during a betting round when you make a bet, then you've bought the pot, and then you have the choice to show or muck your cards.

Betting Procedure

1. Each player is dealt one card face down and one face up. The player with the lowest upcard makes a forced bet of either half minimum bet or full bet (player's choice) to start the game. The rest of the players, in clockwise order, either call the opening bet, raise it, or not call and "fold" their hands back to the dealer.
2. All get a third card face up followed by a round of betting. From this round on, the player with the highest upcard(s) is always first to check or bet.
3. After the fourth card is dealt face up, the minimum bet goes to the higher minimum level.
4. Then the fifth card is dealt face up and followed by the final round of betting. The dealer then determines the highest hand and awards the pot.
